If you are teaching for the ECE program, here is some information related to technology products you may encounter thru NWACC:

Canvas LMS

Canvas is the learning management system used by NWACC. If you will be using Canvas, you must complete Canvas training. Contact NWACC Digital Learning for more information and to sign up for the Canvas training: dl@nwacc.edu

It's important to note that not all ECE instructors use Canvas. If you are teaching at a high school location, you probably won't use Canvas unless it is required by your NWACC department, or if you choose to. Talk to your NWACC ECE liaison if needed.

Certain tools in Canvas may be problematic for students located in high school classrooms or who have school-owned computers. These devices typically do not allow students to download programs or access certain web sites since they are centrally managed by the high school. Chromebooks can be especially problematic.

If you are teaching in a high school classroom with computers or your students will have school-owned computers, some of the technology below will require your high school technical support department to assist. If the high school owns the computers, then the high school tech department must work with you to ensure these products will work for you. If you are teaching from a high school classroom, or your students have school-owned Chromebooks, please point your high school technical support people to the link in the yellow box above for important information about installing Respondus on school-owned computers.

Yuja - Video Recording and Storage built into Canvas

Be sure to direct your students to this page for instructions.

Students who have Chromebooks will run into issues downloading and installing the YuJa recorder. Instructions on how to manage this issue are also given on that page.

YouTube

Access to YouTube may be problematic for students who are using school devices that are locked-down and do not allow students to access YouTube.

One option is for the school to allow access to YouTube. If that is not possible, the student will need to access the YouTube videos from off-campus using a non-school device.

Other Tech Products Used in NWACC classes

Some NWACC departments may choose to use other types of technology products with their classes. For example, some classes use My Math Lab, Mindtap, eBooks, Adobe products or require MS Office. These products may use Canvas as a pass-through to other systems, may require a download, or may need other technology like a webcam. There may be technical complications involved with Chromebooks or school-owned managed devices. Be sure to contact your ECE Liaison with any questions.
