Subject: Information regarding the recording of course sections

Faculty,

NWACC policy 2021 (section 8) covers the issue of recording course sections.

Please notify the class if you are going to record a class meeting.
Students should not record the class on their own without your permission.
If a student has specific ADA accommodations to record a class, you should have been notified by the Disability Resource Center of these accommodations. They will be allowed to record the class specific to their accommodation.
Under no circumstances should any recording be made public in any way, such as posted on Facebook or other social media platforms, without specific permission from all faculty and class attendees. Posting it on a private college system (i.e. Teams, Streams, or in Yuja/Canvas) is allowed.
To comply with FERPA regulations, any class recording, whether audio or video may NOT be used outside of the class that is being recorded. You cannot use this recording in other/future classes. However, recorded lectures that do not involve student interaction may be used from one semester to the next.
This statement should be put in all syllabi, and it will also be posted to the Syllabus Policies page:

Class sessions may be recorded by the instructor. Students may not record, distribute, or live-stream the class without prior permission of the instructor. Students with accommodations should consult with their instructor before recording class sessions. Please contact your instructor with any questions or concerns.
